Pilots Top Ottawa in Exhibition Contest

The Newark Pilots knocked off the Ottawa Reds in an exhibition contest, 4-3 on Saturday night.

Jordan Swiss (Saginaw Valley State) made his first start of the 2016 summer season and worked three scoreless innings. Newark pitched by committee with Chase Cockrell (Hinds C.C.), Jacob Hendricks (Saginaw Valley State) and Sam Harrington (Itawamba C.C.) all throwing scoreless innings.

The Pilots got offensive contributions from Will Gorman who hit an RBI triple in the fourth inning. Bo-Hao Huang continued the scoring in the sixth inning with an RBI triple of his own. Brian Dolan (UMass-Lowell), usually a pitcher, added a pinch-hit single in the eighth for his first hit of the summer.

Solomon Bates (USC) allowed two runs in the ninth inning, but closed the door to earn his first save of the summer.

The Pilots will return to Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action tomorrow as the Jamestown Jammers come to Colburn Park with a scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
