The Newark Pilots open their sixth season of play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball league on June 3rd as the Geneva Red Wings come to town. Geneva will be playing its inaugural season in the PGCBL.
Gates open at 6:05 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Colburn Park in Newark, N.Y. A fireworks celebration will take place postgame.
Renovations to the park include new bleacher seating and new picnic tables to accommodate for a growing fanbase. The Pilots have received growing support from Newark and the surrounding communities.
“We are excited to have the Pilots back for another summer,” said Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor. “We have a beautiful ballpark, with a professional level field. We hope that the new bleachers add to the fan experience!”
The Pilots will be led by head coach Chris Edmondson who served on the coaching staff last summer. Newark will be looking to capture its second PGCBL championship, its first since the team last won during its inaugural season in 2011.
Newark will start on the road against the Jamestown Jammers at 7:05 p.m. on June 1st.
