Newark, NY —Recruiting has begun for the 2014 season in Newark. As Head Coach Mike Armstrong has gotten under way with recruiting players for next season, he has started by bringing back two familiar faces. Both Josh Ludwig (University of Rochester) and Andrew Sanders (Ithaca College) will be back for the 2014 season! Ludwig and Sanders each played an important role to help get the Pilots back to the playoffs in 2013.
Ludwig, an outfielder, is going into his junior year at the University of Rochester. Josh has led the U of R Yellowjackets in hitting the last two years. In 2013 he hit .367 with 9 extra base hits, 16 RBI’s, 25 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. He was one of the everyday starters in the outfield in Newark and hit .281 with 7 extra base hits, 12 RBI’s and 20 runs scored. “We are very excited to have Josh coming back next season. He did a great job for us in multiple roles last season and provides speed and pop from the left side. It’s great to have a local guy as talented as Josh playing here in Newark”, said Coach Armstrong.
Also returning next season will be Andrew Sanders who plays at Ithaca College. Sanders is a big RHP who had a great season at Newark this past summer. When asked, Coach Armstrong said “Sanders had a breakout summer for the Pilots in 2013 and I can’t wait to have him back to hopefully repeat that in 2014. He’s a great kid who brings a lot of energy to the team and I’m excited to see him back in Newark next year.” Sanders was a 2013 PGCBL All Star and also was named to the 2013 PGCBL All League Team. He went 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 9 appearances, 6 of those being starts for Newark.
Both Ludwig and Sanders look to be important pieces for the Newark Pilots in 2014!
